The Physics major is the study of matter, energy, force and motion and the way in which they relate to one another. It provides a comprehensive curriculum that prepares students for graduate studies or careers in technology, medicine, education, law, finance, industry and other professions. Available courses include:
- Nuclear and Particle Physics
- Computer Model in Physics
- Electricity and Magnetism
- Classical Mechanics
- Statistical and Thermal Physics
Students can pursue either a BS or BA in Physics. The Bachelor of Science in Physics prepares students for graduate studies or careers in technology, medicine, education, law, finance, industry, and other professions. The Bachelor of Arts in Physics provides a traditional liberal arts education with a solid set of core courses in physics. Physics is also offered as a secondary major or minor for students who are pursuing a different field of study.
Within the BS degree, students may choose a concentration if desired. The available concentrations include Computational Physics or Pre-Health Care. The Computational Physics Concentration emphasizes interdisciplinary coursework in physics and computer science. It is geared toward students with an interest in computational physics. The Pre-Health Care Concentration is for students with an interest in medicine, dentistry, or other health related professions, and it satisfies the medical/dental pre-professional program requirements.
All majors and minors are encouraged to attend Physics Colloquium and become involved in undergraduate research.
