Sacred Heart University is a private, Roman Catholic university in Fairfield, Connecticut. It was founded in 1963 by Walter W. Curtis, Bishop of the Diocese of Bridgeport, Connecticut. Sacred Heart was the first Catholic university in the United States to be staffed by the laity.

    • Applicants typically admitted have a minimum Bachelor’s grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 (based on the traditional USA 4.0 scale).
    • A Course-by-Course Academic Credential Report is preferred but optional for most programs. Evaluations should be from WES, ECE, FIS, Spantran or any of the credential evaluation services approved by NACES

  • Essay/Personal Statement
    One page personal statement discussing applicant's reasons for pursuing a graduate degree at Sacred Heart University. Please note, program directors do read essays carefully. Ensure essay clearly explains why your past education and experience, as well as future goals, are a good match for the selected program at Sacred Heart University. Please check for spelling and grammar errors.
  • One Letter of Recommendation
    If the applicant has studied/worked at a US institution, a recommendation from a former teacher or manager is suggested.
  • Passport
    Photo Page Copy
  • A signed Agent/Educational Consultant Release for Sacred Heart University is required for all applicants, even if not working with an Agent.

Required Post Admission to Receive I-20 for F1 Student Visa

  • Bank statement that verifies the student, students’ family or sponsors’ ability to afford the costs required to attend Sacred Heart University for one year of study. US dollars are preferred. The statement should be officially certified and signed by a bank official and dated within six (6) months of enrolling at Sacred Heart University

Required Exams

GRE/GMAT exam is not required, however, exam scores may optionally be submitted in support of your application. Sacred Heart CEEB Code 3780

English Proficiency Exam

An Official English Language Proficiency examination is required for all non-native English speakers. The following minimum scores are accepted:

  • TOEFL 80+
  • TOEFL iBT® Home Edition: 80
  • TOEFL Essentials: 8.5
  • Academic IELTS 6.5
  • Duolingo 110

A minimum band score may be required for some programs.

MS Business Analytics, Computer Science, IT, Chemistry, Cybersecurity and Finance & Investment Management will consider IELTS 6.0, Duolingo 105 or TOEFL Essentials 8.0.

MS Healthcare Informatics will accept a minimum overall IELTS of 6.5 (no bands below 6.5), TOEFL of 85 (no bands below 16), or Duolingo of 110 (no bands below 85, minimum production score of 90).

  • iTEP: 5
  • Cambridge C1 Advanced: 180
  • Completion of ELS 112
  • Completion of EF Level C1
  • Completion of Talk Level 7
  • EIKEN: pre-1
  • GTEC: 1200

  • SHU ESL Program: Score of 90 on exit ESL exam AND successful completion of Level 5 or 6
  • VEPT 5.5

Sacred Heart University offers Provisional Acceptance for students who do not meet the minimum English Language requirements.

  • Students may complete ESL courses at Sacred Heart University’s English Language Institute or other ESL school prior to starting their academic program.
  • If applicant does not have an English Proficiency Exam Score, complete the ESL Exam Waiver Request
