Sacred Heart University is a private, Roman Catholic university in Fairfield, Connecticut. It was founded in 1963 by Walter W. Curtis, Bishop of the Diocese of Bridgeport, Connecticut. Sacred Heart was the first Catholic university in the United States to be staffed by the laity.

As an electrical engineer, you’ll learn to design, build, and maintain electrical and electronic systems, ranging from large-scale power systems to smart home devices. Starting in your first year, you can begin gaining real-life experience with an industry-supported research position within our IDEA Lab -- SHU’s open lab space where students explore, invent, and discover.

  • If you have not done so already, register for a campus visit on our visit planner page
  • Submit your Common Application by the appropriate deadline.
  • Have your guidance office submit your current official secondary school transcript.
  • Submit one letter of recommendation from an individual other than a family member.
  • If you are applying Early Decision, submit the Early Decision Contract
  • Submit a non-refundable $50 application fee when completing your Common Application. If paying by check, make check payable to Sacred Heart University.
  • We are a test-optional school. If you elect to submit your standardized test scores, use the following Sacred Heart University codes:
    • SAT Code: 3780
    • ACT Code: 0589
    • AP Code: 3780
    • TOEFL Code: 3780

English Proficiency Test Requirements

  • SAT/ACT Reading/Writing scores (optional for general admission to SHU)
  • TOEFL : 80
  • IELTS 6.5
  • PTE: 62
  • Duolingo: 110
