All applications require the following:
- Minimum qualifications as defined by the Graduate School.
- Transcripts (official or unofficial).
- Reason Statement.
This is usually one page describing your motivation and goals for pursuing graduate study, your specific interests and background in the field, and any relevant academic awards or honors you have received. Please explain which area of chemistry you are interested in and which research group(s) you would be interested in joining.
- Three email addresses for recommendation letters.
Our system will automatically send out requests for recommendation letters. Your recommenders will be able to log in and submit their recommendation. Please let your recommenders know that they must submit their letter as a PDF file with original letterhead and signature.
- $75 application fee.
This fee cannot be waived and is non-refundable.

At the graduate studies level, there are two levels of proficiency in English for master’s and PhD programs: Regular Admission and Dual Admission (Admission with English Deficiency). UWM accepts as evidence of English proficiency TOEFL IBT, IELTS, and Cambridge English: Advanced and Cambridge English: Proficiency. All tests cover the same skills and applicants may submit results from whichever test they choose to take
