The University of Texas at Tyler is a public research university in Tyler, Texas. Founded in 1971, it is a part of the University of Texas System.

Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at The University of Texas at Tyler offers a student-focused, hands-on approach to undergraduate and graduate engineering education, providing excellent preparation for success in today's high-tech world. The Bachelor of Science in computer engineering (BS CMPE) has been designed to provide a strong basis for technical competence and depth in the computer engineering discipline.

Graduates will be able to apply the principles of computer science, physics and math to define and solve problems and design solutions in all areas of research, development, design and operation related to computer systems and their components, including both hardware and software.

Our graduates are involved in professional practice through the application of problem-solving skills, using relevant technology in their field. They demonstrate professional leadership skills through effective communication, critical thought, creativity and teamwork. They integrate engineering principles and social, business and ethical issues into modern society in the process of decision-making and are professionally engaged in serving the needs of business, industry, government and academic organizations.

Transcripts from institutions outside of the United States must be translated (if applicable) and must have a course-by-course evaluation with a Grade Point Average (GPA). UT Tyler accepts original evaluations from the agencies listed below:

Send Test Scores:

Students must provide qualifying scores for one of the following English proficiency tests:

TOEFL: 79

IELTS: 6.5

Pearson: 53

Duolingo English Test: 105

ACT or SAT

UT Tyler does not require ACT or SAT test scores for admission to the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 academic years. We still encourage students to send available scores for class placement purposes.

If a student has graduated from high school in the United States, UT Tyler waives the English Proficiency requirement.

Undergraduate students must be enrolled in at least 12 semester credit hours during a Fall or Spring semester in order to receive a College/Returning Student Scholarship.

Graduate students must be enrolled in at least 6 semester credit hours during a Fall or Spring semester in order to receive a College/Returning Student Scholarship.
