Bachelor of Science in Construction Management

Construction is a major contributor to the U.S. economy. The industry has more than 753,000 employers for more than 7.8 million employees, who build nearly $1.8 trillion worth of structures every year.

The University of Texas at Tyler’s Bachelor of Science in construction management prepares you to take the lead in this thriving industry. Through an engineering-rooted, hands-on program, you’ll be equipped to oversee the entire range of construction operations for commercial and residential projects from start to finish.

Why Major in Construction Management at UT Tyler?

Part of the only comprehensive engineering college in East Texas, our program rivals those at large institutions through opportunities, preparation and focus:

  • Nationally ranked: U.S. News & World Report named UT Tyler’s College of Engineering among the top 50 engineering programs in the U.S. For the second consecutive year, UT Tyler is the highest-ranked Texas public institution on the publication’s Best Undergraduate Engineering Programs (no doctorate) list.
  • Nationally accredited: The University of Texas at Tyler’s construction management program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET. With ABET accreditation, students and employers can be confident that a program meets the quality standards that produce graduates prepared to enter a global workforce.
  • A tailored curriculum: The curriculum, carefully designed by expert faculty members with input from industry leaders, meets the needs of students and future employers. You'll work with advanced technologies and software while learning the management and communication skills today’s effective leaders need.
  • Dedicated faculty: Our professors have extensive experience in the field and understand the construction industry’s current demands. Helping you step up to the challenge, our faculty get to know you in the program’s small classes and become invested in your academic and professional success.

Our program prepares students to manage any complex, high-value construction project from conception through completion, factoring in design, materials, deadlines and budgeting. To achieve this:

  • Coursework and hands-on opportunities prepare you to manage multimillion-dollar projects in high-production housing, commercial construction or major civil or industrial construction.
  • You’ll explore the business side of construction management through courses in finance, management, marketing, economics and accounting.
  • You’ll see what’s involved in motivating teams, collaborating with subcontractors and clients and managing equipment and materials to produce a completed structure.
  • You’ll learn to read and create architectural blueprints and get familiar with building codes and architectural specifications.
  • You’ll receive hands-on experience through service-learning projects, such as working with Habitat for Humanity to build homes, or by applying the principles of construction, engineering and business management to build a tiny house.
  • For students interested in expanding their business skills, knowledge from the bachelor’s degree in construction management lays the foundation to pursue an MBA at UT Tyler.
