Bachelor of Science in Mathematics

Think of all the industries that depend on numbers: accounting, finance, computer science and insurance, to name a handful. Employers value the analytical and problem-solving skills cultivated via a Bachelor of Science in mathematics from The University of Texas at Tyler.

The study of mathematics emphasizes careful problem analysis, precise thought and expression, and the development of applied skills. Students in UT Tyler’s program build this foundation through faculty-guided research, opportunities to present at conferences and a comprehensive curriculum.

Why Major in Mathematics at UT Tyler?

How do you see yourself creating a career through mathematics? Think about the possibilities. Applied mathematicians put theories to work, solving problems in economics, science, medicine, engineering or management. Research mathematicians devise new theories and techniques and push the boundaries of the field’s applications. You may choose to teach mathematics at the K-12 level or pursue an advanced degree.

Design your future through UT Tyler’s flexible, hands-on program:

  • Modern Facilities: Explore applications of mathematics and current technologies in our modern building equipped with computer labs, tutoring areas, a student lounge, two computerized classrooms and Access Mathematica, the world’s most powerful global computing environment.
  • Undergraduate Research: Collaborate with award-winning faculty members on their research and present your findings at the joint meetings of the American Mathematical Society, the Mathematical Association of America, and the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics.
  • Conferences: Participate in top mathematics conferences hosted on campus by UT Tyler. Events have included the Texas Undergraduate Mathematics Conference, the 45th annual Spring Topology and Dynamical Systems Conference and the annual spring meeting of the Texas Section of the Mathematical Association of America.
