The university was founded as High Point College in 1924, and it became High Point University in 1991. HPU offers 63 undergraduate majors, 65 undergraduate minors, and 18 graduate majors.

Bachelor of Science in Data Science

A data scientist uses computing skills for collecting, shaping, storing, managing, and analyzing data to allow for data-driven decision making. Data scientists are in huge demand as they benefit both companies and consumers. Almost every interaction with technology includes data—your online purchases, social media feed, streaming recommendations, and even the facial recognition required to sign in to your phone.

The high demand for data science skills continues to grow and data scientists are in short supply. The HPU undergraduate data science program prepares students to embrace this opportunity.
The HPU data science curriculum incorporates the latest trends in data skills and is guided by the new ABET data science accreditation criteria.

Relevant Curriculum

The goal of the Computer Science department is to prepare students to combine domain expertise, programming skills, machine learning techniques, and knowledge of mathematics and statistics to extract meaningful insights from data. Admission Requirements

Application – Submit the application for undergraduate admissions: www.highpoint.edu/apply.

Transcripts – Submit your official transcripts to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at HPU. We require certified English translations and curriculum evaluations of each transcript.

We recommend using one of the following companies for translation and Course-by-Course Evaluation:

Test Scores – High Point University does not require these scores, but they could meet your English Proficiency requirements or help you qualify for academic scholarships. If you have completed the SAT or ACT, you are encouraged to submit the official scores with your application with the links below.

SAT – The school code for SAT is 5293
ACT – The ACT code is 3108

English Proficiency – Students of non English speaking countries are required to submit one of the following accepted English proficiency exams. Below are the accepted tests and the minimum test score requirements:

TOEFL iBT range = 80

IELTS range = 6.5
Duolingo = 105
MET = 53
iTEP = 3.8
SAT English = 500
ACT English = 20

These are the minimum scores, but do not guarantee acceptance.

Students may be conditionally accepted based on their demonstrated English proficiency. If you are conditionally accepted for language proficiency, you will be required to complete the highest proficiency levels at INTERLINK.
Exceptions – Students of non English speaking countries who have completed school in the USA for 2 years or more do not have to submit an English language proficiency test.
