Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in Finance

The B.S.B.A. in Finance equips students with qualitative and quantitative skills needed to measure, analyze and evaluate the value and performance of financial assets in multiple asset classes like equity, fixed income and real estate. Students learn to apply this knowledge in the fields of wealth management, corporate finance and investment research. Integrated into the finance major are several experiential learning opportunities through national certification programs, such as Bloomberg and Envestnet Institute, the CFA Program, and internships.

Chartered Financial Analyst Program (CFA)

The CFA is a respected investment credential for financial professionals. It is a designation that offers a strong foundation of financial knowledge and readiness for a range of relevant careers. The self-study graduate-level program focuses on investment knowledge and portfolio management. Specific course topics include ethical and professional standards, equity investment, quantitative methods, fixed income, derivatives, financial reporting and analysis, alternative investments, corporate finance, economics, and portfolio management and wealth planning. The PSB joined the CFA Institute University Recognition Program in 2013 through the efforts of faculty member Dr. Premalata Sundaram. HPU’s curriculum is tied to professional practice. Through proper course selection, a student can incorporate at least 70% of the Level 1 CFA Program Candidate Body of Knowledge — aligned with the 10 CFA core areas — giving an early start in the process of securing the CFA. Dr. Sundaram continues to mentor students and is instrumental in securing scholarships for those interested in careers on Wall Street.

A Focused Curriculum

The study of finance is concerned with the process, institutions, markets and financial instruments involved in the transfer of money among individuals, businesses and governments. The study of finance offers students a unique opportunity to encounter both a macro and micro look at the world of financial activity. Students start out by learning the broader skills needed to analyze and measure the value of financial assets and performance. This is then followed up with the chance to apply these skills in specific pragmatic financial decision-making situations.
