Bachelor of Science in Robotics Engineering

Robotics engineering is a multi-disciplinary field that encompasses skills from several engineering areas including electrical, computer, and mechanical engineering as well as computer science. Robotics involves many leading-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence, deep learning, image and video processing, electronics, control algorithms, industrial automation, hydraulics, pneumatics, and newly developed navigation methods for robotic systems. Although robotics is often portrayed as an emerging technology, it is actually a well-established field that includes many areas of recent growth. Robotics includes many exciting applications such as autonomous vehicles, drones, undersea exploration, industrial manufacturing operations, space exploration, robotic surgery, nanorobotics, and agriculture.

Robotics Engineering major includes courses from electrical and computer engineering, computer science, and mechanical engineering, and specialized courses for robotics engineering.

  • ECE 314 Elements of Robotics
  • ECE 317 Industrial Robotics
  • ECE 414 Design and Modeling of Robotic Systems
  • MME 438 Mechanics, Analysis, and Control of Robots
  • CSE 488 Image Processing & Computer Vision

Opportunities for graduates are wide-ranging and exciting! Demand for candidates with robotic engineering skills is strong and growing. Robotic engineering skills can be applied to virtually any manufacturing industry. Robotics engineering skills are also in high demand in emerging areas such as automated transportation, space exploration, robotic surgery, and collaborative robotic systems that interact with humans. Robotics engineers may also choose to combine their technical education with other skills to work in fields such as management, business, law, medicine, and politics.

Basic requirements for admission as an international student to a bachelor's degree program include the following:

  • Completion of formal secondary education in a pre-university curriculum.
Completion must include the awarding of a diploma or the issuance of a leaving certificate or matriculation certificate generally recognized as the educational qualification necessary for admission to higher studies.

English language ability at a level sufficient to undertake a full course of study.

  • TOEFL - 80
  • IELTS - 6.5
  • PTE - 54
  • Duolingo - 110
For more information on meeting this qualification, see Miami University's English language proficiency requirements.
  • Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or American College Testing (ACT) scores (if applicable).
International students are not required to provide an ACT or SAT score, but they may use the ACT or SAT to satisfy English language proficiency requirements

  • International students who are visa holders in the U.S. must provide a copy of their current visa or immigration status.

Financial Support Documentation

  • At the time of application:
International students who are not currently located in the United States are required to submit the online Financial Estimate Form
  • After receiving an offer of admission:
International students who require I-20 or DS-2019 documents (F-1 or J-1 visa) to attend Miami University are required to provide documentation of financial support adequate to cover all educational and living expenses by submitting the online Financial Support Form along with supporting financial verification (bank documentation)

Transfer Credit

Miami University recognizes the differences in educational systems and takes these into account when placing international undergraduate students at the appropriate level in their degree programs. Academic credentials are evaluated within the context of the educational system of the country where the student has studied. Comparisons are made with educational programs in the U.S., and students are placed at levels that are suitable to their educational background.

The following information should be submitted to have any previous studies at a non-U.S. institution tentatively evaluated for transfer credit:

  • A copy of your up-to-date university academic record (transcript) showing all courses completed and grades.
  • Course descriptions and/or course syllabi for each subject considered for transfer credit from a non-U.S. post secondary institution. The descriptions should include a list of required readings, the number of class hours required for each course, and the length of the academic term(s) when enrolled. Since the academic departments at Miami University determine whether credits earned abroad will be accepted as equivalent to courses offered at Miami University, credit is awarded on a subject-by-subject basis.

Students transferring from a U.S. institution may find more information about how to request a transfer credit evaluation
