New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) is a public research university in Newark, New Jersey, with a graduate-degree-granting satellite campus in Jersey City. Founded in 1881 with the support of local industrialists and inventors especially Edward Weston, NJIT opened as Newark Technical School (NTS) in 1885 with 88 students. As of fall 2022 the university enrolls 12,332 students from 92 countries, about 2,500 of whom live on its main campus in Newark's University Heights district.

Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering

Program Objectives: 

The Computer Engineering BS Program will provide students with a rigorous learning experience and prepare them for professional careers in the field. We expect each of our graduates to:

  • Succeed in computer engineering areas or other diverse fields that require analytical and professional skills.
  • Pursue professional development, including continuing or advanced education, relevant to their career plans.
  • Contribute to their fields or professions and society.

Learning Outcomes: 

While students in the Computer Engineering B.S. program will learn a wide range of skills, we specifically aim for all of our students to meet the following learning outcomes:

  • An ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science, and engineering;
  • An ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data;
  • An ability to design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs within realistic constraints such as economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safety, manufacturability and sustainability;
  • An ability to function on multidisciplinary teams;
  • An ability to identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems;
  • An understanding of professional and ethical responsibility;
  • An ability to communicate effectively;
  • The broad education necessary to understand the impact of engineering solutions in a global, economic, environmental, and social context;
  • A recognition of the need for, and an ability to engage in, life-long learning;
  • A knowledge of contemporary issues;
  • An ability to use the techniques, skills, and modern engineering tools necessary for engineering practice

First-Year Students

TRANSFER STUDENTS

  • Official transcripts from all colleges or universities attended
  • Transcript evaluation (WES or NACES member)
  • Completed at least 15 semester hours, including:
    • English composition
    • Mathematics (pre-calculus is required for most majors)
    • Science (chemistry and/or physics required for some majors)

It is recommended that international students begin the application process six months prior to the start of the semester to allow sufficient time for processing international credentials and applying for a student visa.

There are also final cutoff dates for each semester, by which all the application requirements must be completed:

Undergraduate International Applicants

  • Fall semester: March 1
  • Spring semester: October 15
