Pittsburg State University (Pitt State or PSU) is a public university in Pittsburg, Kansas, United States. It enrolls approximately 7,400 students (6,000 undergraduates and 1,400 graduate students) and is a member of the Kansas Board of Regents.

Master of Science in Chemistry

Chemists study the reactivity, structure, and properties of atoms and molecules that comprise materials and the world in which we live. The Department of Chemistry offers a Master of Science Degree with a Major in Chemistry designed to help students achieve their academic and career goals. The program is perfect for those who wish to earn a Ph.D. at another institution or who wish to advance their careers in an industrial setting.

Students may choose from two options. The first is a traditional two-year program for those who have already completed a bachelor’s degree. The second option combines the bachelor’s and master’s degrees into a five-year program. This option is the perfect choice for students who wish to accelerate their studies and proceed directly into the workforce or a doctoral program.
Options available for the degree include:
Option I: Thesis
This option is designed to prepare students for a doctoral program, for advanced professional careers, or for students wanting to complete an in-depth research experience.
Option II: Research Problem
This option is designed to provide a research experience that can include a specific problem, creative and aesthetic efforts such as performances, exhibits, or creative programs, or an internship.

Application

To apply, you may complete an online form. 

A $60.00(US) application fee is required prior to completion of the application process. The non-refundable application fee should be paid online by credit card or in the form of a certified check or money order made payable to Pittsburg State University. There is an additional Express Mail fee for the mailing of the admission packet and immigration documents. 

Graduate Programs available to International Students and their Requirements

Submit the following: 

TOEFL, IELTS, PTE, or Duolingo score results (not required for conditional admission)

  1. IELTS - 6.0
  2. TOEFL - 79
  3. PTE - 53
  4. DUOLINGO - 100

 The transcript should clearly indicate:

  1. all coursework and grades (or marks)
  2. the degree awarded
  3. the date the degree was awarded
  4. the name of the institution where degree was earned

Please note that a 2.7/4.0 converted grade point average is required for admission to any of our graduate programs.

Several items must be submitted by International students in order to complete the application process. It is important that students allow enough time to complete the application process for the semester they wish to enter.

Application Deadlines

  • Fall (August) - June 1
  • Spring (January) - October 15

*All documents must be received by the deadline dates.

A non-refundable $60 graduate application fee is required for Masters and Specialist in Education degree-seeking students.

Payment for the application fee can be made by check, money order or credit card. Payment by bank draft will not be accepted.
