The Master of Science in Civil Engineering program produces the next generation of civil engineers that make important discoveries, develop new technologies and apply cutting-edge approaches to ensure the safety, resilience and sustainability of our infrastructure systems.

Our faculty members are actively involved in state-of-the-art sponsored research programs and work collaboratively with graduate students on projects that are fundamental and applied in nature.

You'll join a group of students and faculty who engage in sponsored research projects funded by the Ohio Department of Transportation, the U.S. Air Force, as well as water and wastewater companies and agencies.

We offer technical electives in environmental, geotechnical, structural, transportation, water resource engineering, — helping you customize your degree.

Enjoy real-world design projects that link leadership and service to learning and scholarship in our Catholic, Marianist tradition. Our program focuses on advancing design and building safe, reliable and affordable infrastructure.

A minimum of 30 semester credit hours as outlined below is required:

Minimum twenty-one (21) semester credit hours of civil engineering and engineering mechanics from concentration areas of engineering mechanics, environmental engineering, geotechnical engineering, structural engineering, transportation engineering, or water resources engineering.

Maximum nine (9) semester credit hours from other engineering disciplines or basic science course offerings.

Once your application is submitted and all required materials have been received, the admission evaluation and review process takes approximately 6-8 weeks for most programs. However, the process may take longer in certain programs.

Letter of Recommendation

A recommendation form will be sent directly to the individual(s) listed on the application. Students may change their recommender or resend this form through the Admission Account.

The University of Dayton's calendar is divided into three terms. Your program may have specific application deadlines, so please review the details of your chosen program. If a specific date is not provided, the follow deadlines for international students are:

  • Fall term (August through December) — June 1
  • Spring term (January through April) — November 1
  • Summer term (May through July) — March 1

Should you be unable to attend a specific term, please return to your admission portal to submit a new application for a future term. Any submitted application documents will be moved to the new term application. Updated financial documentation may be required.
