Bachelor of Science in Human Resource Development

Take advantage of one of the nation’s few bachelor’s programs in human resource development — available right here in East Texas, as well as 100% online. The University of Texas at Tyler prepares you to move into this dynamic field and create a satisfying, productive work environment for employees and your organization.

Develop skills used in both human resource development and human resource management through a mix of HRD and management courses. HRD graduates find positions in business, nonprofit organizations, educational institutions and government.

Why Major in Human Resource Development at UT Tyler?

Human resource development professionals cultivate a healthy, productive workplace culture built upon strong management-employee relations, a change-driven mindset and adapting to a rapidly changing marketplace.

Human resource development majors learn to best use the skills employees bring to the workplace and contribute to organizational development in various public and private settings.

Some of our program’s strengths include:

  • Expert Faculty: As experts and thought leaders in the field, our faculty share professional insights from their years in the workforce, including human resources positions with Hallmark Cards, NCR Corporation, Pennsylvania Power and Light, Motorola and General Electric.
  • Flexible Options: We offer the only Texas-based baccalaureate human resource development program in both traditional and 100% online formats.
  • Real-World Experience: Intern for a range of local industries, including nonprofits, government and healthcare. Students practice what they’ve learned in exchange for course credit, and assignments often lead to full-time jobs upon graduation.
  • A Strong Student Community: The Soules College of Business has ten student organizations and four honor societies you can get involved with from your first day on campus.
  • Leadership Development: Gain leadership skills and strengthen your résumé through membership in UT Tyler’s SSHRD student chapter. Or, prepare to become a successful strategic adviser, human resources manager or e-learning coach by networking and utilizing career development skills in the annual Soules College of Business Mock Team Interviews event.
  • Networking Opportunities: Network with students and professionals through Beta Gamma Sigma, the honor society for AACSB-accredited business schools.
  • Exceptional Facilities: At almost 140,000 square feet, the home of the Soules College of Business holds numerous lab rooms, including a financial analytics laboratory, study areas, 12 classrooms and an auditorium.
