Graduate Applicants

Graduate applicants, regardless of their citizenship, who do not hold a bachelor's degree from a institution where English is the primary language of instruction or who have not attended secondary school or higher for at least three full-time years in an environment where English is the primary language must provide one of the following:

1. A minimum score of 80 on the internet-based TOEFL exam (iBT),
2. A minimum score of 213 on the computer-based TOEFL exam
3. A score of 6.5 or higher on the IELTS Academic Test, or
4. A score of 105 or higher on the Duolingo English Test (DET) for all graduate programs, except for the MA in English: Literature, which requires a minimum score of 120
5. A score of 53 or higher on the Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic

Graduate applicants who have met all admission requirements except English Proficiency may be offered conditional admission through the CSUDH American Language and Culture Program (ALCP). Upon successfully completing the ALCP, students will receive an ALCP English Proficiency Waiver, enabling them to begin their degree program in the subsequent available term.
