Master of Science in Computer Science

The CU Denver master of science in computer science provides ample opportunities in state-of-the-art research and professional development in various interdisciplinary areas.​

The master of science in computer science requires a minimum of 30 credit hours of graduate-level computer science courses with at least a 3.0 grade point average. Students choose one of three plans to complete their degree. Students in the Data Science in Biomedicine track will complete a minimum of 36 credit hours of graduate-level courses.

NOTES:

For students with applications from majors that satisfy the admissions criteria but are lacking some CS foundational courses: A specific plan of study is devised in your admission plan specifying the number of CS foundational courses to be completed during the first year of your studies with a minimum grade of B. In addition to these courses, you will need to complete a minimum of 30 credit hours to satisfy the program requirements.

Department positions may be available (including teaching assistants).  Department positions are hourly based positions and do not include tuition reimbursement; hiring decisions are made 1-2 weeks after the beginning of each semester by the department. These positions are competitive and are based on availability, need, and qualifications. Computer science students are also eligible for other on campus employment.  For available positions, please refer to Handshake, the student employment website.

International Credential Evaluation Requirement

An International Credential Evaluation Report is required for any applicant who attended one or more academic institution(s) located outside the United States. All international credentials from academic institution(s) located outside the United States will need to be verified for authenticity and evaluated by CU Denver or an external evaluation provider (ECE or WES).

If you are applying for CU Denver programs, you have two options to choose from:

  • CU Denver In-House Evaluation
  • External Evaluation (ECE or WES course by course only)

If you are applying for CU Anschutz medical programs, you must provide an external evaluation report (ECE or WES course by course only).

Document Retention Policy

Transcripts from Institutions Located Inside the United States

You must submit complete transcripts for all US post-secondary institutions you have attended directly to your CU Denver graduate admissions office. Check your department’s website for details and contact information.

Submit Test Scores

Some graduate programs require standardized test scores (such as GRE or GMAT) for admission. If your program requires a test score, you should send your score through the testing agency. We require official scores for an admission decision. Verify the requirement below with your program's school or college.

The GMAT is required for admission; however, the GRE may be substituted. GMAT/GRE waivers are available case-by-case and can be requested while completing the online application. Please note, that not all programs offer the same GMAT/GRE waivers.

College of Arts & Media

GRE not required for all programs

College of Engineering, Design, and Computing

GRE not required for most MS and MEng programs.

 

Special Notice: the college has temporarily suspended the evaluation of GRE scores for admission decisions through the 2022 application cycle (Fall 2022 - Spring 2023). If you choose to optionally submit them, please send scores officially through ETS using code #4875. A preferred minimum score of 300+.
